In Memory of Kirill Seryogin: Kamchatka Guide Freeride Guide<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Backcountry guide who opened the wild beauty of Kamchatka to the whole world, died in a helicopter crash. Through calm blue eyes and fearless energy, he turned rugged terrain into a space of freedom and connection. Through storms, and sincere fireside talks, he gave us courage, joy, and perspective. Goodbye dear friend.   <\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

 It\u2019s so hard to write this. And even harder to remember \u2014 it\u2019s tears and gratitude all at once.
Of course, when you work as an extreme guide, your chances of getting in trouble are higher than most.
But still\u2026 it\u2019s so deeply unfair. To Kirill\u2019s family, his friends, and everyone who ever rode with him or worked alongside him \u2014 sending strength.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kirill Seryogin was the founder of Kamchatka Freeride Community \u2014 a visionary, guide, and a cult figure in Russia\u2019s freeride and backcountry world. Calm, grounded, keen on safety, never reckless, never taking risks. He made the wild beauty of Kamchatka feel both safe and sacred. He built a movement, a community, a culture. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019ve been scrolling through our chats and photos\u2026 So many photos with him. So many.
The last time we saw each other was in Moscow \u2014 the crew brought the film \u201cLonging for Silence\u201d<\/em> about Kamchatka.
Kirill, as always, was the one who organized everything.
He was also the one who introduced me to Anya Orlova \u2014 our world freeride champion.
He did so much for all of us. Didn\u2019t he?
So many of us were spoiled by chairlifts and sunny resorts.
But Kirill\u2026 he made Kamchatka accessible \u2014 by helicopter or on foot, dragging your snowboard up some remote slope to ride down into the wild, where there\u2019s nothing but snow and silence and maybe one other group on the entire range.
Kirill and the team they built together \u2014 they took freeride in Russia to another level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We first met in Snow Valley \u2014 Snezhnaya Dolina<\/em>, where they were guiding heli and backcountry groups.
Kirill mostly ran the heli ops. So many lifts and drops he did!
That year, there was so much snow, you couldn\u2019t even see the first floor \u2014 we entered the house through the second-floor balcony.
Then a snowstorm hit, and we all got stuck \u2014 a few groups together. That\u2019s how we met.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I remember the first thing that struck me about him \u2014 his soft, clear blue eyes. That calm gaze.
Rocks, blizzards, crevasses \u2014 but with that look, you felt like nothing could go wrong.
Kirill told every new person he met about the Kamchatka Freeride Community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You\u2019d hear the stories, see the photos \u2014 it looked beautiful, but hard.
You\u2019d think, \u201cThis isn\u2019t for me. I can\u2019t do this. Too dangerous. Physically impossible.\u201d

But with Kirill, it was suddenly doable. Even fun.
We all followed him \u2014 up, up, up \u2014 and it wasn\u2019t so scary anymore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Me \u2014 and so many others \u2014 we\u2019re all so deeply thankful.
For the impossible he made possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That\u2019s how I discovered this whole new world \u2014 backcountry, freeride, this wild, controlled kind of danger.
That\u2019s when everything started\u2026 from Kamchatka.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He was warm. Familiar. We had so many real, soul-deep conversations.
About big things, heavy things. And about little nonsense things that still mattered somehow.
On those Kamchatka trips. At our dacha in Moscow. At his lectures at Sport-Marafon.
And when they screened the film \u2014 that last time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Those soft, clear blue eyes \u2014 how much warmth they held. How much experience and care he passed on to all of us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At that final screening \u2014 some club, loft Overtone \u2014
everyone there was \u201cone of us.\u201d
A room full of people who shared the same obsession.
Familiar, familiar, familiar.
I remember I felt a little lost in the crowd at first \u2014
but then there were his bright blue eyes again, shining like always \u2014
on snow, behind goggles in a storm, and even in a dark club.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We talked about parenthood. About living for the thrill, and what it costs.
I told him I was moving to Canada, to the Pacific coast.
He used to ask why Kolya and I hadn\u2019t left yet \u2014
“You speak the language, you\u2019ve got everything. Just go.”
I asked why he<\/em> didn\u2019t leave.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Of course, he said he loved Kamchatka too much. He wanted to develop the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2014 So\u2026 you\u2019ll come visit me in Vancouver?
\u2014 I will. Why not? It\u2019s closer than flying to Moscow, across the ocean.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And when we said goodbye \u2014 those same bright blue eyes again.
So many plans. So much future \u2014 it felt limitless.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2014 So, you\u2019re leaving for good?
\u2014 Just for school. Maybe I\u2019ll come back\u2026 to visit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And now I\u2019m flying \u2014 for the first time in three and a half years.
Just visiting.
We missed each other.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I always think back on those Kamchatka trips.
And all the times we crossed paths in Moscow.
His smile. His energy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s not fair. It\u2019s so, so unfair.
We\u2019ll all keep crying over how unfair it is \u2014 for a long time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thank you, Kirill, for everything.
You changed so many of our lives.
You opened up a new world \u2014 taught us freedom, and courage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019ll always, always, always remember.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
