Delayed flights, vanished luggage, lost passport, airport meltdown, French-Canadian bureaucracy, grief, stubborn optimism, and a \u2018little black dress\u2019. Real-time chronicling of a chaotic route via Toronto, Montreal and Dubai with Emirates as the unexpected hero and Air Canada as the ultimate mess-up.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

You only get what you\u2019ve deserved – or what you\u2019ve let happen.
Whose flight is delayed? Who\u2019s missing their connection in Montreal and might not make it to Dubai? Who\u2019s being called on the \u0444\u0448\u043a\u0437\u0449\u043a\u0435 radio – urgent, urgent, Madame M? Who\u2019s taking not three but four flights (and that\u2019s only for now)? Who, of course, has overweight luggage? And who\u2019s so beautiful and obsessed with adventure that attracts it even when it\u2019s not the right time?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I waited and waited forever for my documents. And when they finally came – sending them back to me took forever, too. The embassy lost my passport. Then found it. Eventually. I shifted some stuff into my carry-on -because with this kind of luck, I\u2019m absolutely losing my suitcase too.
Mom sent me a voice message: \u201cYou\u2019re taking forever.\u201d
Hurry up already – and take\u2026 the black dress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yes, take the black dress.
The universe decided to test my ability to claw my way out of the most absurd situations. Sometimes I think I somehow attract them – so much that people around me either marvel or run in horror. What\u2019s illusion and what\u2019s real? With this pace, it\u2019s all a blur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They\u2019re announcing again – in French now. I tune in. Good – I understand. I flinch from anxiety: if this flight is delayed too, I\u2019ll probably end up flying to Dubai via the Yukon, then detour to Reykjavik, then Helsinki, take a ferry to Tallinn, and from there hop a train from Pskov to Moscow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2014 Katya! Can you do anything normally?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Well, absolute normality is already a psychological deviation.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Human beings are never perfect! Never…<\/p>\n\n\n\n

UPD1:<\/strong>
<\/strong> While I was connecting all these cursed flights, my mom messaged right in the air – Grandpa passed away this morning. What is \u2018a morning\u2019? The evening of my previous day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

UPD2:<\/strong>
<\/strong> No time to grieve. The suitcase, of course, didn\u2019t make it. I\u2019m distracting myself with bureaucratic idiocracy. Just want to land finally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

UPD3:<\/strong>
<\/strong> Instead of Vancouver\u2013Montreal (delayed), I\u2019m flying Vancouver\u2013Toronto\u2013Montreal to catch my Dubai flight. And guess what? Every! Single! Air Canada flight on my route is delayed!
I\u2019m sitting on the plane in Toronto. Engine maintenance. \ud83d\ude33<\/p>\n\n\n\n

UPD4:<\/strong>
<\/strong> My booking from Toronto has disappeared completely! No kidding – I\u2019m told \u201cit\u2019s vanished\u201d!
Air Canada lost my ticket in their system. I run to Emirates to try and catch the Toronto\u2013Dubai flight. Right now. But they close check-in right in front of my face. I call Emirates. They\u2019re begging over the phone the lady at their Emirates check in to let me be on this flight. But she is firm: from Toronto – there are already no seats. Really? It\u2019s only been one minute.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But sometimes… you just hit the wrong person. Then again. And again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And nothing gets resolved.
Air Canada doesn\u2019t see me in the system and won\u2019t put me on a flight.
Emirates can\u2019t override them – but they\u2019re really trying. These ones are real pro! It goes in circles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I feel the end of the world approaching. My brain tips into overreaction – massive meltdown over a minor hiccup.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I just stood there in front of Air Canada and warned them – I won\u2019t move from this place and I\u2019m about to start crying. Loudly. And I won\u2019t stop until they get me to Montreal or Dubai.
And I did. Hood up. Full-blown sobbing. Not moving. I wasn\u2019t gonna cry alone in a bathroom anymore – I\u2019m tired. I need my audience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That\u2019s when they finally came.
Security showed up. One manager. Then another.
I\u2019m not joking! I really did that – not on purpose, I sometimes lose control…<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the third manager – plus Emirates still on the phone – it all worked out.
They threw<\/em> my passport at me. Threw<\/em> my phone and my boarding pass at the desk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

UPD5:<\/strong>
<\/strong> Night in Montreal. Flying to Dubai tomorrow.
Air Canada? Zero support. Zero empathy. Aggressive staff.
Emirates? You are my stars today. You handled that madness with Air Canada like champs.
Thank you for being kind. Thank you for existing. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/strong> Twelve hours of peace with Emirates – entire row to myself in priority class.
Sweet care after every possible disaster.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now on layover in Dubai…
Guess who lost her passport and boarding pass?
Guess. I was so focused and armed with a clear mind that I let my guard down and relaxed just a little too soon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This needs to be a separate story.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
